GOLIATH Kick-off meeting

Late January the GOLIATH project had its official kick-off event at Egmond aan Zee in the Netherlands. GOLIATH is a five year, European Commission-funded project consisting of 15 partners with the aim to develop new testing strategies to assess ‘metabolic disrupting chemicals’(MDCs). MDCs are exogenous chemicals that have the ability to promote metabolic disorders such as obesity, diabetes and/or fatty liver in humans. GOLIATH will identify mechanisms of actions of MDCs using animal free in vitro and in silico approaches, and will be pivotal in the development of an internationally harmonised strategy for testing MDCs, to help to reduce the worldwide rise in metabolic disorders that have reached ‘Goliathan’ proportions.
